TEXTBOOK: Textbook (required): Licht, D. M., Hull, M. G. & Ballantyne, C. (2017). Scientific American: Psychology (2nd ed.) New York, N.Y.: Worth. The second source is an article from a refereed (peer-reviewed) journal (preferably an American Psychological Association journal published within the last five years) which addresses one of the psychological concepts or topics relevant to your intended career. You will want to find an article which is research (data-driven) based and which uses the experimental or correlational method. I now understand that psychology is the study of peoples mental operations, performance and behavior. In addition, it evaluates how knowledge is applied to improve relationships, employment and education, treat mental health issues, and understand events. In fact, the subject of psychology lies at the intersection of theoretical, education and applied science. It involves other study areas that include social sciences, natural sciences and humanities (Licht, Hull&Ballantyne, 2017). The basic definition of psychology is that it studies people in terms of what and who they are. It looks into why people act in a specific way, think the way they do and how they can improve themselves. Through studying psychology, an individual gains the awareness of how the mind and body work in concert. This knowledge helps with avoiding stressful situation and decision-making, living effectively, setting and achieving goals, and time management. By having an understanding of psychology, the individual can tackle mental illnesses to improve the quality of life(Licht, Hull &Ballantyne, 2017).Purpose of assignment: To measure Students Ability.,Personally, I have applied psychology in my life to help me become more determined to do the things that I enjoy and make me happy. I now understand who I am as a person, and have a more positive outlook on life. Whenever I am faced with a problem, I can now handle it more easily by focusing on positive aspects. My initial motivation for studying psychology was to address my panic attacks. I suffered from debilitating panic attacks and visits to numerous psychologists failed to effectively address my condition. As a consequence, the panic attacks worsened over time. I felt that not one of the psychologists I had visited understood my situation. I such, I decided to take matters into my own hands by learning psychology in particular I was interest in learning about how psychology interpreted and addressed anxiety disorders with the intention of solving my panic attacks. For me, this was the best personal and career decision, and I have never regretted it. I got my life back and in the processes joined a career that I have grown to love (McLafferty et al., 2017).,Currently, I apply psychology in four key areas of my life. Firstly, I apply psychology to enrich my career by understanding my coworkers and building better relationships so that I am better able to deal with their actions as I enrich my career. Secondly, I have applied psychology to build my self-confidence. Through understanding more of myself and personality, I have gained more self-confidence. Also, I have learnt about my weaknesses and can now build on them. Thirdly, I have applied psychology to improve communication as I understand how others think and behave. I now better understand what others mean even as they communicate through actions and gestures. Fourthly, I have applied psychology to build better relationships. It has made it easier to live with others by understanding them and working with their unique behaviors (Bartels, Peterson & Reina, 2019).Purpose of assignment: To measure Students Ability.,In addition to applying psychology in my personal life, I have applied psychology in my career. As a psychologist, the coursework has helped me be more proficient in my professional competence. Firstly, the knowledge has helped me to comprehend why people can act strangely. I now know that people are strange creatures and I enjoy learning about their crazy and seemingly irrational actions. For instance, why some people develop obsessive compulsive disorders and how they can be managed. Secondly, I have learned about some outrageous and fascinating experiments. For example, the Stanford prisoners experiment that sought to understand the power dynamics between guards and prisoners by simulating a prison situation in an experimental setting. Through learning about past psychology experiments, I have become more familiar and proficient in setting up and conducting successful psychology experiments(Licht, Hull &Ballantyne, 2017). Thirdly, I have acquired academic skills that have allowed me to develop a more critical attitude. I no longer easily accept every material I read as being truthful. Rather, I have learnt to approach all materials with some measure of skepticism and only accepted information as truthful after verifying with other trusted sources and ensured that the presented arguments apply acceptable logics and scientific methods. Fourthly, I have learnt about mental disorders and their treatment options. As a psychologist, I anticipate dealing with the varied mental disorders. I understand that some of these disorders can have debilitating effects. Fortunately, psychology offers effective treatment options for these disorders. The prospect of helping others who struggle with their lives and seek to live normal lives appeals to me. Purpose of assignment: To measure Students Ability.Through the coursework, I have become familiar with best practices in managing mental disorders with regards to the diagnostic and treatment protocols. Finally, I have gained insight into peoples behavior in terms of how they act, feel, think and do. I have not only learned about the general characteristics of human behavior, but also about the differences. Understand what drives others and how I can influence their behavior has become central to my practice as a psychologist(Licht, Hull &Ballantyne, 2017). Overall, I feel that psychology has enriched my professional and personal life.Purpose of assignment: To measure Students Ability.
