I came into the Year a decent reader and writer, creating acceptable essays. Before looking back at my old writings and comparing them to my essays now, it was hard to tell that anything had changed at all. I feel the same when i sit down in front of a paper or a computer, but what i didn’t realize was how different the results were. Being able to look at how I used to write and comparing that to my style now really opened my eyes to how much I have learned and progressed.
It is easy to be blind to change because change is always all around us and it is a fact of life. This year in expository reading and writing it is obvious that my skills increased and my knowledge has grown. Before this year, I had always felt that every single paper I wrote was just the same as the last one. I was stuck in a rut of spewing out the same repeated formats and essay structures. The way I use to structure my essay compared to now is the most obvious change to me. OPM Module 6 Reflective Essay.
Until this year I had always thought that there was one and only one way to write a paper. The different assignments and varying papers really opened up my mind to other ways of essay structure. When first realized there was more than one way to form an essay, my mind was blown. It just never appeared to me that i could write an essay in an other way than a 5 paragraph paper with an intro to three main points expressed in three body paragraphs followed by a conclusion. All my life I believed there was no other way but after taking this class i have been able to write a whole new way expanding and exciting new writing styles and structures. One other feature that i realized has changed would be my ability to analyse and take note of what I read. Through all of the passages that we read and all the articles annotated, my skills to study and grasp what I read has greatly increased. In past years I would find myself forgetting what I had read or not totally grasping what it was that I had read. Now I have learned new skills and strategies for taking notes, annotating, and comprehending what i read.
After taking the time to look back and reflect on the year, it has become apparent to me the amount and magnitude of my progress. The change is very real indeed. This class helped me in more ways than one and i have enjoyed it very much so. I walk away this year with new knowledge and new skills that will most definitely help me out in college and even after that.,OPM Module 6 Reflective Essay.
