Essay About Terrorism in the United States

Essay About Terrorism in the United States

Throughout history, the United States has been involved in several noteworthy events that influence our everyday experiences. We have overcome many obstacles, whether it involves a war, negotiation, or a movement. An event that stumbled upon our path was the devastating and fatal event that occurred on September 11, 2001. This marked one of the worst events throughout history and many still struggle to overcome the death of a loved one. After this tragedy, the United States assembled many regulations that would prohibit another terrorist attack on our land. The Military campaign, War on Terror, has affected the standard way of living, in exchange for a secure environment. The event that killed approximately 2,977 civilians occured on September 11, 2002. This involved four East Coast planes that were hijacked and aimed to hit the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and Washington D.C. One plane went through the North Tower and in minutes, another plane went through the South tower. This had killed a large quantity of people instantly and many who were trying to leave the building were stuck. The third one had hit the pentagon, which caused major damage. Finally, the fourth plane had landed in Pennsylvania due to the heroic act that the passengers took on with the terrorist. This occured due to the lack of regulations and procedures. This can be demonstrated by the lack of supervision, ID scan, luggage check, and much more. This was one of the causes that enabled this attack to proceed and result with a horrific tragedy. A statement that the president of the United States stated was, “Thousands of lives were suddenly ended by evil, despicable acts of terror. The pictures of airplanes flying into buildings, fires burning, huge — huge structures collapsing have filled us with disbelief, terrible sadness, and a quiet, unyielding anger -George W. Bush.” This allowed the people to have a sense of hope and revenge for the death of their loved ones. Since that day, many regulations have come about and many invade our privacy, economy, etc.The War on terror, is a military campaign that aims for revenge towards the ones that caused  the September 11 attack. It was created on September 20 by the President of the United States, during that time period, it was George W. Bush. He confronted a large quantity of people and stated, “Every nation in every region now has a decision to make…Either you are with us or you are with the terrorists.” The proceedings were the Afghanistan War and Iraq War. This had many positive effects, which  are the arrest of hundreds of terrorist suspects around the world, the prevention towards any other major terrorist attack from any foreign country, and international cooperation. Some of the disadvantages that seek with this group was that it embodied immoral, illegal, or both. Some of the foreign enemies that had stumbled upon them were tortured, so that they would release knowledge that would benefit the United States. The United States government argued that its a war with radical Islamists who engage in terrorism. The foreign policy towards Afghanistan and Iraq were nothing but attacks; The seek of revenge. Other countries began to Support the United States actions that caused the Afghanistan war. Some allies were Britain, Turkey, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, France and Poland. After this mark in history, the Iraq war was established, because the dictator possessed weapons that were threatening. The outcome was to focus on combating global terrorism, particularly al-QaidaThe war on terror did take the form of conventional warfare. This offers politicians, and the public, opportunities to fight over emotionally fraught but hard-to-solve tactical dilemmas. Aviation security has been furth established and constantly strives for a secure environment. This is the reason why it’s safer to travel than back during the 2000s. Some things that this group are concerned about doing are having hardened cockpit doors added to all large passengers. Another thing that they have established was the names for domestic flights, which are checked in an expanded terrorist watch list. Some international change, which means influence from country to country, included Intelligence-sharing among governments. A fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations stated, “ We’re getting much better cooperation from the French, from the Germans, from the Saudis, from the Pakistanis. ” There’s also the tracking weapons of mass destruction. The U.S. and other intelligence agencies exposed a worldwide, Pakistan, Ran, Libya, and North Korea. This was based on selling nuclear technologies and equipment to outlaw regimes. These are some regulations/procedures that occur constantly so that a terrorist doesn’t seek an opportunity for an attack. In today’s time, we are not able to see terrorism take part in our lives. Most attacks have not successfully gone through, ever since 9/11. This occurs because we have defenses that are consistent. The Worst and deadliest attack ever since the 9/11 was based on gun violence. The event that took the lives of several people took place on June 12, 2016. The terrorist was able to sneak into the night club, which led to the death of 49. This is one of the current attacks in the United States. Some regulations that were enforced in that time were good for international processing but not with everyday activities. Gun violence is a real thing and people are fighting towards a change, where guns are limited. Some of the difficulties that civilians had to face in their lives were nothing but negative. A growing sense of fear has managed to make its way to the US, which is affecting America’s Muslims. They are facing some sort of harassment, bullying and aggression. A policy that took place soon after the 9/11 attack was the USA Patriot Act, passed by Congress  which included the federal anti-money laundering statute and the Bank Secrecy Act of 1970. This had made the country more secured and tougher on terrorism. A major topic was that the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act saw major changes around privacy, which allowed them to “lower the legal bar for the government to engage in wiretapping and other surveillance practices.” In other words, we are not able to live a life where our information is only known by specific people. This allows the United States to listen into calls, research your status and know a large quantity of information about your standard way of living. Another regulation that was established that had affected foreign policy was the U.S. Department of Justice would have prosecuted not only terrorists, but those who provided support like money, training and weapons. A creation of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security allows “combats with terrorism and other threats domestically” which exhibits an effort to ensure a home land that is safe, secure, and resilient. In other words, it was designed to oversee and plan some strategies to safeguard the country against terrorism. Which will respond to any future attacks.Since the September 11, 2001 event, there has been a change on how we live our life. Some major impacts that an average american would face would be one of their major topics; ongoing wars, immigration, deportation, major surveillance, and much more. After the tragedy, several U.S. troops had gone to Afghanistan. Our involvement still continues at this current time, which has turned into the longest-running war in U.S. history. In 2002, it has been stated that, “the Bush Administration also opened the Guantanamo Bay detention center in Cuba. This is where they began sending suspected enemies. They were held indefinitely, where prisoners were denied access to trials or legal representation. They were subject to brutal interrogation techniques. Many agencies have overseen a massive increase in deportations; where they have nearly doubled since 9/11. The U.S. intelligence state has increased at a faster rate, soon after the terrorist attack. Most of these actions occurred through  increase in government oversight and spying on the network of phone and web surveillance. A reliable source known as lowdown stated, “Further audits reveal that the National Security Agency alone has annually scooped up as many as 56,000 emails and other communications by Americans with no connection to terrorism, and in doing so, had violated privacy laws thousands of times per year.” In other words, the government is violating our rights and the fourth amendment.  The statistics have been proven and these new policies are constantly violating our privacy. As I have stated earlier, the main impacts for the civilians were the ongoing wars and big surveillance. I personally acknowledge that these changes towards an average American would feel violated and mistreated. Some of the wars are going on and a large quantity of death is occurring each year. I am a student and civilian who lives in California. It has been statistically proven that, “as of August 25, 2014, 749 California service members from every corner of the state had been killed in Iraq and Afghanistan.”The process of the 9/11 lacked the works of scanning, interviewing, and questioning. In our current time, policies that have been established cause long airport lines, full body scans, and occasional pat-down. The Transportation Security Administration is constantly seeking for opportunities where new security procedures and managing screenings are constantly occurring at every commercial airport checkpoint in the country. Finally, the main one would be the big surveillance.I consider myself as a normal civilian and knowing that I am being heard when I’m on my phone, texting, searching, etc, makes me feel aware that my personal belongings are not so personal and that they are violating my amendments/rights for no justified reason. Soon we get to have an idea what many may feel about these policies. There are some that feel safe and secured with these regulations but others may contradict with these.Overall, history has impacted the country in a certain way, which influences our standard way of living. World Wars have occured and the tragedy of the terrorist attacks that occurred on 9/11 demonstrates the strength and how we have recovered over time. This attack is well known throughout the country because it marked the day of several deaths of American citizens, who died on their own land. The lack of security and resources that were in that period of time, did not benefit our country. Soon after the attack, the president was able to increase the hopes of many and seek the opportunity for revenge. The hard evidence against Al-Qaeda soon established new wars that still go on in today’s time. There were some aspects that were positive and beneficial. Some involved the capture of possible terrorist and international cooperation. With sudden change, we had to adapt to many regulations that contribute to foreign policy changes.
